The nice thing about being finicky about music is that music previously ignored or disliked becomes new and exciting. I have never been a fan of Chopin. Learning a Prelude 28 helped my ear appreciate Chopin a bit more. Learning Prelude 20 makes it clear why Gazebo, Barry Manilow and Art of Noise were influenced by him. I am by no means his biggest fan now, but it is nice to discover some music that has always been there.
